Parks & Recreation
4 city parks host everything from pit volleyball to
horseshoe matches and the best picnic spreads around. Amsler
Park Aquatic Center brings out the kid in all of us as we
swim, splash and dive through the summer months.
2 area lakes, Lake Waco and Lake Belton, lure fishing,
boating and swimming enthusiasts. Both have camping/RV sites,
picnic and recreational facilities.
9 golf courses challenge and entertain every level
of play, from professional to amateur golf enthusiasts. 2001's
newest is the championship Bear Ridge Golf Course, an 18-hole
daily fee course on 205 acres along the meanders of the Middle
Bosque River just minutes out Hwy. 84 from McGregor.
Mother
Neff State Park, the first ever founded in Texas,
is just six miles from McGregor, beckoning family reunions
and large get-togethers into its spacious pavilion under ancient
riverside trees.
Homes of Distinction
Within 15 minutes of Main Street, residential choices abound.
Weekend ranchers build a little herd and a custom home in
the countryside. Those who prefer a putter to a plow select
from exquisite golf course sites. Some follow the allure of
history and the charm of gingerbread preferring McGregor's
lovely historic homes, one of which was purchased for The
Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast shown here.
Spiritual Community
A wide variety of religious expression adds vitality and offers
positive experiences that bring together all ages of our community.
McGinley Memorial Library
Nostalgically housed in the historic old Ritz Theater, McGregor's
library at 317 Main Street is home to a collection of over
14,000 books. Five computers with high speed access are available
for drop-in public use and provide free Internet e-mail services.
The newest addition is an expanded children's department offering
preschool Storytime every Tuesday at 10 a.m. During the month
of June, all aged children attend Storytime every Thursday
from 10 to 11:30 a.m. complete with surprise guests, related
activities and refreshments. A special curiosity is the Ritz's
original movie projection equipment left just as it had been
in the 1930s. Wander into the balcony and see how 'puttin'
on the Ritz' really happened in old McGregor. Hours: Tuesday
through Friday 12-5 & Saturday 9-1.
